Most dating apps verify nothing. Eight verifies everything before you ever see another human. Here's what we check.
Every Eight account starts with a 30-second intro video. Reviewed by a human, not an AI. No video, no access. This is what makes catfishing structurally impossible.
You only get an 8-minute call with someone if both of you tap the smile. There is no message-spam vector on Eight. The product literally cannot be used to harass strangers.
Calls are capped at 8 minutes by default. You can't be talked at endlessly. The "panic exit" is in the top-right corner on every screen. One tap, you're out, the other person is auto-blocked.
Eight does not record video calls. Not for moderation, not for "training", not for anything. Once the 8 minutes is over, the conversation lives only in your head. By design.
Direct messaging is the last thing that unlocks, not the first. Both of you have to say yes after the call. The default state is "no chat", which means the default state is no harassment vector.
Every report gets reviewed by a real person on the Eight team within 24 hours. Not flagged-then-ignored. Reviewed, decided, actioned. Most cases are resolved same day.
This is the actual flow. We tell you because most apps don't, and that's the problem.
The reported account is auto-suspended pending review. They cannot enter another room, send another smile, or contact you.
The Eight safety team reviews every report. We look at the reported user's video, their behaviour, their history, and any context you provided.
Outcome: warning, temporary suspension, or permanent ban. Most cases of harassment, impersonation, or sexual content end in permanent ban. No second chances on the serious stuff.
You receive a notification with the decision. You stay anonymous. The reported user does not know who reported them.
For threats, stalking, or sexual content involving minors, we proactively involve law enforcement. We retain the necessary records to support investigations.
